THE PROBLEM
Alphascan were approached by this small and specialist company based in Southampton, Hampshire very near the docks when one of their staff members who looked after all things IT left the business. With the company only having 7 users the business owner was unsure how to best move forward without hiring a replacement. He was recommended to Alphascan so we popped in to have a chat and take a look at his setup and requirement for IT services.
THE ANALYSIS
The business had 2 servers both located on-site which were nearing end of life along with some of their desktop computers which were Windows 7. The business owner was worried about the costs involve of replacing not only both the servers but also the desktop PC’s for all his staff.
THE SOLUTION
Alpahscan, after consulting with the business owners decided that a cloud solution utilising Microsoft Azure technology would be of most benefit to them, alongside providing new laptops with dual screens and docking stations to staff members. We decommissioned both servers and moved all files and folders into the cloud. We also liaised with all the businesses technology partners to ensure an easy transition and minimal disruption.
Due to the business having some very important project deadlines on the Monday and Tuesday, Alphascan was able to carry out these duties over the weekend to avoid downtime during business hours and handled the entire process from start to finish.
THE RESULTS
Firstly the business owner was happy with his cost savings. MS Azure and MS 365 are subscription based services and with Alphascan providing this solution instead of installing new on-premise servers we were able to save him a large amount of money.
Due to Alphascans relationships with many of the leading suppliers we also provided some Refurbished HP Core I7 Laptops (with extended warranty) at a very attractive price. With us also moving the workforce from traditional desktop machines to laptops with docks and dual screens staff can now work remotely with no drop in productivity. Working in collaboration is now so much easier with the increased functionality of apps like MS Teams and Sharepoint.
Alphascan impressed the business sufficiently that they are now one of our Banked Hours customers and we are now looking to install our 3CX VOIP system in the next couple of months which will also save them some money.
